NITTY GRITTY DIRT BAND

“Speed of Life” (Sugar Hill/NGDB)

The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band pretty much inked the blueprint for alt-country in 1972, when it engineered the landmark “Will the Circle Be Unbroken” sessions that matched L.A. country-rockers with the cream of Nashville. So it’s no surprise that 37 years and many lineup changes later, NGDB sounds fresh alongside the likes of Wilco and Son Volt. Mixing bluegrass, country, rock and soul into such potent originals as “The Resurrection” - the track to download - and surprising covers such as “Goin’ up the Country,” NGDB proves it still matters.
