Nitty Gritty Dirt Band completes the circle
In the mid-1960s, a couple of Southern California surfing buddies yearned to start a band, but they didn’t want to play surfing music.
Jeff Hanna and Bruce Kunkel wanted to form a jug band. After they enlisted Jimmie Fadden to play the jug and harmonica, and Ralph Barr to strum the washboard, they realized they needed a name.
