NItty Gritty Dirt Band Celebrate 50 Years at Mountain Winery

Fifty years is a long time for any relationship. When a marriage hits the half-century mark, the celebration is called a “golden anniversary.” But when a band makes it through five decades—of living on the road, continuing to release relevant material, keeping up a unified public image and maintaining healthy interpersonal relationships—it’s a small miracle.

Saturday Night Gets "Nitty Gritty"

Saturday night's CMA Music Festival lineup included a wide variety of talent from former rock star Steven Tyler to Blake Shelton. The night opened up with Marshall Tucker Band, quickly followed by The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.

The genesis of contemporary country and roots music is often attributed to the year 1966, when singer/guitarist Jeff Hanna, drummer Jimmie Fadden, multi-instrumentalist John McEuen and singer Bruce Kunkel formed a rock/jug-band hybrid known as the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in Long Beach, Calif.
